SAMPLE APPLICATIONS

UMN Forest Resources Department and USFWS Region 3

As each Refuge/WPA project is completed, the geospatial data may be made available online as interactive mapping applications.   These maps are made possible through the use of the University of Minnesota's MapServer software.   MapServer is a tool that allows dynamic presentation and query of geospatial data using a Web browser.   With these dynamic maps, a user (the person viewing the map) can select and view several data layers, zoom in and out, and ask for information about the layers.

Two online MapServer examples are currently available:

  1. Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge

  2. Minnesota Waterfowl Production Areas

The current version of MapServer is 3.6.   For source code, documentation, download instructions, technical support, and application examples, please click on this link: MAPSERVER HOME PAGE.
